Beyond Baroque: Gathering Imagery from the Internal Wall - A Generative Workshop with Holaday Mason
Name: Beyond Baroque: Gathering Imagery from the Internal Wall - A Generative Workshop with Holaday Mason
Date: January 25, 2020
Time: 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM PST
This workshop is designed to help writers of all stages travel into their internal emotional worlds in order to retrieve imagery from the subconscious aspects of the mind & heart.
The workshop will involve guided meditations, breath & sound work, and readings, with the intention of gaining access to less daily terrains in the psyche.
After the meditations, participants will be producing raw material from which they will be able to mine work. We will be sharing the raw material. There will also be (time allowing) a period of walking meditation at the end of which participants will again have time to write their impressions.
What to bring: Please bring an original poem to share at the outset of the workshop so we can get to know a little of one another. Also bring writing paper, pen(s), something soft to sit on, a pillow, a yoga mat if possible & a blanket (if you wish). Bring lunch, water, any snacks you need. Please also bring one poem you admire that uses more imagery than narrative. We may or may not get to this. The primary goal is to learn some basic trance & meditative practices that can loosen new material and reconnect us to our bodily knowledge to generate raw material that each writer can continue to work with beyond this session.
Please know these practices can bring intense emotional material to the fore & we are gathering with respect to each person’s privacy & capacity.
