The first Venice Art Crawl of 2016 is set for Thursday March 17 and in honor of St. Patrick’s Day “Green” is the theme. Recycled art, “Leave No Trace” signs made by local artists and a green lit landmark VENICE sign will be some of the features at Windward Circle. The info booth has maps for events and is located at Danny’s Venice, 23 Windward Ave. Danny’s will be showing ART’ravenous a celebration of life, art, poetry, music, theatre and comedy. The Rasta Bus will shuttle art lovers around Venice for free!
Some of the other highlights of the VAC are:
The Sunny Bak Studio located at 2214 Pacific Ave. which will highlight assemblage artist Dr. Louis D'Elia who will be presenting: "Impersistence of Memory", six artworks which he calls “rolling conundrums” with the themes of identity, role expectations and the quick passage of time.
Designer Robert Graham located at 1326 Abbot Kinney Blvd. is one of the evening’s sponsors, the artistic clothing is a show of its own. Come drop in and say hello. Another VAC info booth will be at AUST, 1219 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
The Cat Club will be showing a Cat Art Show and cat adoption at Fringe Salon at 1605 Abbot Kinney Blvd. Come get your "purr" on.
Bank of Venice at 80 Windward Ave. will present the work of Walter Chism a long time Venice resident featuring his art: "Photos of Venice Life".
Plancha Taco, 2024 Pacific Avenue, will feature LORE Productions presenting Fine Art Artists, the artwork of Marcus Pollitz, Heribito Luna, Chavez Art and Luis Huffington.
LA Louvre Gallery, 45 North Venice Boulevard, is showing assemblage artist Kienholz Televisions.
David Tanych, sculptor and Meryl Lebowitz, painter will be hosting an opening at the Art Shack-Teau at 1008 5th Avenue. There will be a 7pm unveiling of David's latest, larger than life, steel and redwood sculpture. This piece will be a new addition to his "Tools of the Trade" series, displayed on the corner of Westminster Avenue and 5th Avenue. The unveiling will be followed by a BYOB opening with live music by New Orleans' funk band, The Gumbo Brothers.
The second of the year VAC will be Thursday May 19 all along the hip and world famous Abbot Kinney Boulevard, a street named after the founder of Venice. This VAC will be featuring tech events. The third VAC will be Thursday July 21 during the height of the tourist season at the trendy intersection of Lincoln and Rose. The fourth and last VAC will be a first ever two night crawl called #VeniceAfter Burn on September 15 & 16 on the boardwalk near the Skatepark Artists. It will feature artists who have shown at Burning Man. They will present their work during these two festive nights of surreal art environments and art cars.
