Marina del Rey History JoAnn Cowans Exhibit
A Marina del Rey History Exhibit, with photos from Los Angeles County archives, late photographer Greg Wenger, The Dinghy magazine, and The Argonaut, is on display at Marina del Rey Historical Society Gallery. A special exhibit by artist/historian JoAnn Cowans portrays the early 1960?s Venice canals, bridges, and soon-to-be dismantled oil fields and derricks. Paintings include City of Night, a 40 x 70? Giclée print on canvas showing lights of LA over the canal and through the oil derricks; and Speedway and Oil Wells. The Cowans exhibit starts February 12 and continues through March 31.
Marina del Rey Historical Society is a member of L.A. as Subject, a research alliance dedicated to preserving and improving access to the archival material of Los Angeles history, with an online directory of more than 230 separate collections residing at University of Southern California?s Archival Research Center. Marina del Rey Historical Society will be hosting L.A. as Subject?s February general membership meeting.
Marina del Rey Historical Society Gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday, Noon to 4 p.m. All exhibits are open to the public. Admission is free. The Gallery is located at Fisherman?s Village, 13737 Fiji Way, Suite C-3, Marina del Rey (two hours free parking with validation, no purchase necessary).
