for the opening reception of De Colores Means All of Us.
De Colores Means All of Us is one of seven exhibitions opening across Greater Los Angeles for the 5th Sur Biennial. In recognition of the artistic and conceptual goals of the Sur Biennial, De Colores focuses on a shared history of struggle between Black, Brown, and Caribbean communities, and the strength of cross-cultural alliances. De Colores is premised on the notion that exploring each other's cultural production and history through art is a means of moving beyond the divisiveness that continues to affect our country today.
De Colores is curated by Claudia M. Huiza and features artwork by nine Latinx and African American womxn artists: Martiza Alvarez, Lavialle Campbell, Patrisse Kahn-Cullors, Zeal Harris, Ana Navarro, Cole Jupiter James, Star Montana, Claudia Rodriguez and Sandy Rodriguez.
