VCC Lunch & Learn at Hotel Erwin: Government 101
- Do you know your congressional district and elected representatives?
- How about your representatives at the state senate and assembly?
- And at the City and County level, what resources are available to you as a business employer/professional?
We will begin with a brief top-down overview of the political engine and local resources, and then continue the discussion with a panel of the local field deputies representing the Venice area.
During this presentation, you will learn what issues and activities each of our elected offices are working on, and how their efforts impact local business. We will conclude with a spirited, mediated discussion to identify action items to pursue, with the objective in mind to empower and activate positive change for Venice.
Registration includes presentation & lunch.
The panel session will be with representatives from the offices of Congressman Ted Lieu, State Senator Ben Allen, Assembly Member Autumn Burke, City Council Member Mike Bonin, and Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl.
We are honored to have Mark-Antonio Grant, former deputy and special advisor to the late Council Member Bill Rosendahl as our MC and moderator. Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, Mark-Antonio Grant moved to Los Angeles in 1978. Following six and a half years as an engineer, he made a career change to the public service arena; which featured assignments with Santa Monica Chapter of the American Red Cross, the South Coast Air Quality Management District, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation's "Best Campaign For A Drug Free Tomorrow;" and the Los Angeles Unified School District. After campaigning in 2005 to elect Los Angeles Councilmember Bill Rosendahl to his first term in office, Mark accepted a staff position with Councilman Rosendahl and continued serving with Councilmember Mike Bonin until his retirement in 2015. We don't want to date ourselves, but Hotel Erwin has remained a Venice Beach staple since 1975. The man behind our hotel is a local legend, though he'll never admit it, and his vision to welcome all travelers and treat them like family still influences our hospitality today.
Here at Hotel Erwin, we give our guests an unmistakably Venice Beach experience. Our vibrant rooms and event spaces capture a unique aesthetic that sets the scene for any occasion. Not only do we put guests right next to the beach, but we are also steps away from the areas famed shopping, dining, and activities. When you finally return back to the hotel, there?s always a seat at our rooftop bar High Lounge or low-key dining spot Barlo Kitchen + Cocktails.
