Venice Art Crawl on Venice Blvd
"Venice Canals" by Todd Goodmann, painted with acrylic on canvas
The Venice Art Crawl will hold their second crawl of the year on Thursday May 17, 2018, 6-10PM. Instead of having art events throughout the city, as past years, this year the VAC will focus on four specific areas, the second one being on Venice Boulevard, between Lincoln Boulevard and the beach. This stretch of Venice Boulevard is becoming known by the locals as the Arts District.
In an effort to outreach to a new generation of Venice artists, the VAC will offer free creative workshops to K-5 students from local elementary schools at the Venice-Abbot Kinney Memorial Branch Library, 501 Venice Boulevard. The Kidz Creative Camp workshops will cater to the students school hours starting at 3PM and will promote the spirit of Venice with: painting on ceramics, storybook making, colorful chalk drawing, recycle art, and more.
Head towards the ocean and visit the Alkaline Water Gallery, 18 North Venice Boulevard, owner Leila Levi will be showing 7 Women including Michele Pelletier, Mildred Rivera and Karen Gladstone. A skip away and you’ll find yourself at favorite beachside eatery and bar James Beach, 60 North Venice Boulevard, actor Lori Petty of Orange Is The New Black, will have her drawings on display. One block south of James Beach, visit the Sunny Bak Studio, 2214 Pacific Avenue, Monica Seggos will be presenting a performance art piece titled: The Broken Heart Repair Shop: Version One: The Doctor’s Office, giving prescriptions for your broken heart dressed in nurse attire. Come sit with Nurse Candy Frost and explore this interactive installation. Also at the studio outside in the garden, Maron Hamilton will have her fine art photography on display.
Also showing at the VAC are:
- Valda Lake from Wallspace curating a space at 582 Venice Blvd.
- Canal Club showing the art of Todd Goodman and Patrick Marston
- SPARC
- Beyond Baroque Requiem: Aching for Acker
- Plancha Taco showing Tonan and Gaither Whaley’s friends
This year the VAC is going to be more pedestrian friendly by focusing on four specific areas: March on Windward Avenue, May on Venice Boulevard, July on Washington Boulevard and the Boardwalk for the Afterburn in September. Painters, poets, performers and musicians from the community, and all over the world, display their art in this historic beachside haven for artists.
Making the Venice Art Crawl more pedestrian friendly means we will be highlighting and focusing on events in a specific part of Venice for each crawl. For March, curate and plan your event on or near Windward Circle. The remaining crawls will have similar focused location guidelines for that month’s area.A good way to connect with artists and businesses in each specific area is to attend our Mixers.
Looking forward to seeing you at the 2018 Venice Art Crawls.
