SUMMARY:Beyond Baroque: Gathering Imagery from the Internal Wall - A Generative Workshop with Holaday Mason
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is designed to help writers of all stages travel into their internal emotional worlds in order to retrieve imagery from the subconscious aspects of the mind & heart.\n\n\n\nThe workshop will involve guided meditations\, breath & sound work\, and readings\, with the intention of gaining access to less daily terrains in the psyche.\n\n\n\nAfter the meditations\, participants will be producing raw material from which they will be able to mine work. We will be sharing the raw material. There will also be (time allowing) a period of walking meditation at the end of which participants will again have time to write their impressions.\n\n\n\nWhat to bring: Please bring an original poem to share at the outset of the workshop so we can get to know a little of one another. Also bring writing paper\, pen(s)\, something soft to sit on\, a pillow\, a yoga mat if possible & a blanket (if you wish). Bring lunch\, water\, any snacks you need. Please also bring one poem you admire that uses more imagery than narrative. We may or may not get to this. The primary goal is to learn some basic trance & meditative practices that can loosen new material and reconnect us to our bodily knowledge to generate raw material that each writer can continue to work with beyond this session.\n\n\n\nPlease know these practices can bring intense emotional material to the fore & we are gathering with respect to each person's privacy & capacity. \n\n\n\nHoladay Mason is the author of five full-length collections: Towards the Forest & Dissolve\, (New Rivers Press 2007\,2011)\; The Red Bowl: A Fable in Poems (Red Hen Press 2016)\; The "She" Series: A Venice Correspondence\, with Sarah Maclay (What Books Press 2016) & The Weaver's Body (Tebot Bach 2019)\, as well as two chapbooks. Her manuscript\, Transparency\, was a finalist for the 2015 Snowbound Prize\, & her manuscript Feather. Imago. Portal. was a finalist for the 2016 Dorset Prize. Nominated for three Pushcarts\, widely published\, co-editor of Echo 68\, and poetry editor of Mentalshoes.com\, she is also a portrait & fine art photographer focusing on the beauty of aging & the human being as part of nature. She has been a psychotherapist in private practice since 1986 and runs therapeutic writing workshops that involve guided "imaginal" (H. Corbin) journeys into our deep inner realms with the intent to bring up unexpected\, intimate material for healing & writing.\n\n\n\nTickets: \n\nGeneral Admission\; $50.00 \n\nBeyond Baroque members $35.00 \n\n\n\nTickets on Eventbrite
